Walking is something I have always enjoyed. Thankfully now living in one of the few áreas in Puerto Rico where pedestrians can walk safely on sidewalks and cross streets I have been walking more.
Having to walk our black Labrador Juanga is something we have to do at least 3 times a day and when that is not enough living near the beach gives us a bigger excuse to go walking.
Walking has always brought many benefits for me. Walking clears the mind, serves as exercise, creates opportunities to meet new people, sparks ideas, and it keeps you aware of what is going on around you at a slower pace than driving in a car or using other types of transportation.
A Caminar
Our daughter is about to turn 20 months old in a few days and she loves walking. Since we moved near the beach about a month ago she really loves walking on the beach. She also loves to run and what better surface than Sand to cushion any possible falls. She enjoys also just stepping and splashing near the water. It is great exercise although sometimes I think she is built like a robot because I get fatigued before she does.
Walking gives her independence
On many afternoons I take her to the beach she usually wants to get in the water lately she has been kicking her legs as if she was swimming but once she gets tired of the water she will ask for us to walk.
Walking becomes a family event where even Juanga our black labrador comes along. On other occasions I get to walk on the beach and observe her as she pays attention to every detail, person, animal, or object she passes by.
Walking Creates Memories
Walking with my daughter has created some beautiful experiences that I will keep with me. I look at these moments and I realize that they will not repeat themselves. I make sure I make the best of them and also it gives me a chance to see how quickly she is growing.
Time flies and we sometimes forget that we are not here forever. My walks with my daughter are a reminder that she holds my hand tightly today so I can give her structure and guide her closely.
As time passes that grip I have on her will have to loosen up. I know I will be satisfied with my work the day I can let go and my daughter can take the her own walk of life.
Daddy will always be there to protect her when she needs it but I am sure that with her personality as of right now she will be able to handle things on her own.
Enjoy life and walk along those who you love the most. Its healthy and most importantly keep in mind those opportunities and moments are limited in life.
Take a deep breath and go for a walk! Or as my daughter would say, “A Caminar”.
