Last year at this time we were awaiting the arrival of our daughter Daniela. I had passed my due date and my doctor was out of town for the weekend probably praying that I would not ruin his weekend away. This year we are getting ready to celebrate our first Christmas as a family with Daniela and also celebrate her first birthday.
Wooden Toys
With so many plastic toys being recalled from the time I was pregnant to this year, I really wanted to buy wooden toys for Daniela. There is something that attracts me to wooden toys over plastic. As a former elementary school teacher, I tried to have the students play with as many wooden toys as possible. For Daniela we purchased four toys including one from @MelissaAndDoug which is a shape sorting cube. Two toys from Plan Toys including a xylophone which we Quality Mom Tested. Finally a stacking toy from Educo called the pyramid of play. We bought them so they would last her a long time and so she could learn to use them over the next several months. I am afraid she will be more entertained with playing with a box or wrapping paper.
Our Tree
We decorated our first official Christmas tree with bows and ornaments. The tree has been up since after Thanksgiving. My sister even mentioned to my mom that she was surprised that I was into the spirit of decorating for Christmas. I told her things have changed; we had a baby.
On Daniela’s first birthday we will go to the beach and spend some time watching her splash, play with sand, and possibly chase down any birds within her crawling distance. Then come home for some homemade cupcakes and sing Happy Birthday.
Most importantly it will be a time to celebrate with the family members who are close by and continue to see our daughter reach new milestones with the new year. Even JuanGa gets to celebrate this year with a huge doggy bone in shape of a candy cane.
