Tradition is something that is somewhat left out on many occasions due to all the modern options we have on a daily basis. The holiday season is when traditions get remembered for a short time and then once January comes around it’s back to the same routine. Unless you live in Puerto Rico which has one of the longest holiday seasons, traditions last a bit longer than those in the North.
A few months ago I met the owner of the house that is right in front of ours. After having a few conversations with him and exchanging ideas on many subjects, when he was about to leave he gave me a gift, which was a CD so I could play to my daughter.
I really appreciated the fact that the person that just met me wanted to share music, something I am very passionate about. When he handed me the CD titled “Algo Para Entretenerse” he explained that this was a musical arrangement with his son playing many Puerto Rican traditional songs on the Cuatro.
Very Talented Sidekick
The small sidekick named Carlos Gabriel goes over many of my favorite Puerto Rican traditional songs like Preciosa from Rafael Hernandez and Verde Luz from Antonio Caban Vale “El Topo”. Also in the selection of songs in this cd that holds 17 songs played by Carlos Gabriel on the Cuatro includes the international favorite “En Mi Viejo San Juan” by Noel Estrada.
I was brought up with music from different styles. My dad loved Salsa, my mom loved Sandro, my uncle Tito was the most eclectic one who introduced me to a variety of music from 80’s pop, rock and a diversity of other sounds.
The Eclectic Dad
I love listening to all types of music. If you sit in my office you wil hear genres from Frank Sinatra, Edith Piaf, Ludacris, Notorios B.I.G, Gwen Stefani, Anthrax and Calle 13.
I love listening to all types of music but as a Dad I think it is critical that my daughter leave Ludacris and a few others for later in her life after she can understand the music a bit more.
On my side I appreciate that Efrain the proud (Papá Hero) of Carlos (Talented Sidekick) wanted to share the music his son has created in such a way.
I have added Carlos Gabriel’s “Algo Para Entretenerse” into my daily play list and I highly recommend you to support this young Sidekick in his early músical projects.
