My mom use to travel with my brother and me all the time from Connecticut to Puerto Rico and back. It was a task that I admire my mom for because it must have not been easy.
A few weeks ago I wrote on my Dad’s terrible experience with Jetblue and how his biggest concern was a mom travelling alone with three kids which sat there for hours.
For a few years I travelled quite a bit. When I moved back to Puerto Rico I still worked for some time out of DC. For me travelling up and down to take care of clients in the DC area. Travelling on your own is a huge task. I can write for days with my various experiences with TSA. Every time I see TSA checking a baby carriage or patting down a baby it really bothers me.
On the Other side airlines are so focused on making profit they sometimes care less about who is flying and under what conditions they are. I have seen one too many times where single moms or parents travelling alone with their kids and need the extra help but there is no one around to help them.
Preparing for Bumps down the Road.
When you travel with kids it is critical for you to have a back up plan in case that there are delays or limited places to eat. Not to forget that in some occasion’s airport has very expensive options to eat. So if you are travelling with a family of more than four packing snacks and options to eat might make it easier on your pocket.
Keep them entertained
Travelling is a great experience for kids to learn new things. It is great that your kids have a favorite toy even if it is electronic but make sure you get them to enjoy all the environment around them.
As a kid I remember how my mom kept us entertained without any electronic devices by playing card games and always teaching us stuff throughout the trip. For me travelling as a kid was an awesome experience and I have to thank my mom for that.
So far as a new dad I have not travelled yet but I would like to know what tips do you recommend for new dads (like me), new moms, and others that are travelling with kids.
